42KM MTB & EBIKE

Starting with a climb up and out of Home Bay to spread the pace line and pump up the heart rate. From Northern Junction you will head south on the central road for the first time, this gravel road is fast flowing with great 360 degree views.

Heading across the causeway and onto Rangitoto Island, the landscape changes to beautiful native bush and awesome lava flows. Here you'll start the slow but steady grind to the top of a 600 year old volcano, at the top quench your thirst and take in the view for a second or two. From here it's a fast downhill to the furthest point on the course. The 10km ride back to Motutapu is flat and fast, rolling past the historical baches under the shelter of the towering Pohutukawa trees.

Back onto Motutapu Island you will be into some quality farm track riding. Now heading clockwise around the North-West of the Island, ocean views will meet you while riding next to a number of old World War Two gun placements. Ripping down the centre road for the second and final time you are now getting close to the finish. Heading down to the causeway, you will make a left and head onto farm land tracks again for the final 4km. From here you climb to the highest point on the Island (121m), where you will be treated to some magic views of the Hauraki Gulf and neighbouring Islands. The final 2km is all downhill before your smiling face crosses the finish line back at Home Bay for an ice-cold Speight's!

Age Limits:

  • 15yrs to 18yrs – Guardians permission required.

  • 12yrs to 14yrs – Child must be accompanied by guardian.

  • Under 12yrs – not able to participate in this distance.
