Kids Activities

We've got a host of fun activities to keep the young ones busy and happy at event base! Just remember that if your child isn't entered into the 1km Kids Dash you'll need to book their ferry tickets when you enter the event.

DOC Conservation Dog Display

Come meet (and cuddle!) the amazing Conservation Dogs who are saving our native bird from predators and other invaders!

The Conservation Dogs are trained to sniff out either:

protected species (mainly birds) so they can be banded, monitored and/or moved to another place, or
pest species (eg rodents, stoats, Argentine ants, weeds) that would destroy our native wildlife in pest-free areas.

Guided Kayakaing

This will be a 30-45 minute kayak around Home Bay, with a limit of 4 kids per outing along with a guide. Reserve your child's spot at the registration tent.

1km Kids Dash

An awesome flat little course that starts at the event base and finishes in the Finishers Chute - complete with a medal for your little one!

(Kids Dash participants must be entered in advance - either when you enter online or at registration on Thursday evening / Saturday morning. Kids Dash entry fee includes cost of ferry ticket.)

Swimming

Home Bay is a perfect little swim spot. This isn't an organised activity – we just mention this to make sure you all bring your togs and towels! Parent/adult supervision is required for all children in the water.

Treasure Hunt

Follow the clues from spot to spot to win the ultimate prize! This is a great activity for you to do with your little ones after you finish your own event.

Face Painting

Face painting always adds a bit of magic to your child's day. Maybe encourage yours to be a Takahē or a kiwi for the day? Whatever they choose it's bound to be fun!
