21KM TRAIL HALF MARATHON

Taking the direct route to Rangitoto Island you head up and over Motutapu Island via the gravel road to the causeway. On to Rangitoto the scenery dramatically changes from rolling farm pastures to harsh lava fields and beautiful native trees. The landscape is amazing!

Starting the slow but steady foray to the top of the 600 year old volcano you'll then be able to stride out through some awesome Pohutukawa trees to the Rangitoto Wharf. Once you're back on deck at sea level it's into the coastal track, this 6km "jungle" like section will keep you on your toes with its technical contours as you follow the historical trail through the lava fields along the coast line. It's magic!

Back onto Motutapu, basalt is traded for meadows on the final 4km, ‘arh' you'll be thinking. As you climb to the highest point on the Island (121m) you will be treated to some magical views of the Hauraki Gulf and back across to the Viaduct Basin. The final 2km is all downhill before your smiling face crosses the finish line back at Home Bay, soak up the atmosphere!

Please note, the 21km Half Marathon has SOLD-OUT in the last three years, if you're keen make sure you get in early!

  • 17.1km (with electrolyte drink, water, chips, biscuits, bananas & lollies)

  • 19.1km (with electrolyte drink, water & Lollies)

  • *Please remember your own cup/bottle/hydration pack as there will be no disposable cups provided at drink stations

Course Terrain: Gravel Road, Grass Track/Trail, Volcanic Rock Single Track

Age Limits:

  • 15yrs to 18yrs – Guardians permission required.

  • 12yrs to 14yrs – Child must be accompanied by guardian.

  • Under 12yrs – not able to participate in these distances.
